ISLAMABAD - The Parliamentarians from Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) member countries Wednesday unanimously adopted the draft agreed Charter of the (to be formed) Parliamentary Association of Economic Cooperation Organisation (PAECO) in the concluding session of the 2-days meeting of the ECO Parliamentarians.
The draft Charter would be formally presented before the meeting of Council of Economic Cooperation Organisation ministers to be held in October 2012 in Azerbaijan for approval. After thorough consideration, the Economic Cooperation Organisation Parliamentarians unanimously adopted the agreed Charter of the PAECO. It was agreed that the proposed parliamentary forum would be named as “Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organisation Countries (PAECO) with its permanent Secretariat to be established in Islamabad. The funding of the Secretariat would be borne by Pakistan.
The proposal of National Assembly of Pakistan for hosting the first General Conference of the proposed Parliamentary Assembly of Economic Cooperation Organisation Countries was well taken by the all the Parliamentarians and was decided that National Assembly of Pakistan would host the first General Conference of PAECO in December 2012 in Islamabad. The offer of Afghanistan to be the host of second General Conference was also accepted.
Arif Aziz Sheikh greeted the delegates for their contribution to deliberation on the proposed draft charter of PAECO.
