RAWALPINDI – The patients in the three teaching hospitals faced a lot of troubles on Wednesday because of absence of young doctors from their duties.
The young doctors, on the call of Young Doctors Association (YDA), staged a massive protest demonstration outside Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) at Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR) against Punjab government for not improving their service structure, blocking it for vehicular movement for more than three hours.
The protestors, numbering in hundreds including students of Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC), were carrying placards and banners mentioning words in favor of their demands and chanting slogans against Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Secretary Health for not materialising their promises regarding service structure.
According to details, the young doctors reached at BBH in shape of rallies that were taken out from District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ), Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and gathered outside BBH, where they held a protest demo.
They blocked the traffic on BBR causing immense troubles for commuters and pedestrians.  The traffic wardens closed the Chandni Chowk Flyover by placing barricades for the traffic coming from Islamabad and converted it towards Rawal Road
YDA Joint Secretary Dr Junaid Abbasi, while talking to media men, said that Punjab government was not listening the complaints of young doctors despite the fact that they boycotted the OPD services in the public hospitals three months ago demanding for provision of proper service structure as majority of doctor remained in same grade for years without promotions.
He said that the young doctors had obeyed the court orders about not observing any strike in the hospital and keep on attending the patients but our right to protest for just cause could not be taken away.
“The YDA Punjab has decided to carry out protest rallies in major cities of the province as the government had failed to provide service structure to the doctors for three months after the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered for provision of the structure” Dr Junaid added.
According to him, the protest demo was joined by the doctors from four districts of Attock, Rawalpindi, Chakwal and Jhelum to express their solidarity with YDA in protest against delay in implementation of service structure and delay in quashing of FIR against doctors of Mayo Hospital Lahore.
