LAHORE - Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the government is making hectic efforts to achieve earliest possible end to the prevailing severe energy crisis which has badly affected the national economy and education, health, agriculture and other social sectors.

An accelerated industrial process contributing to the national progress and creation of more and more jobs cannot be secured unless the problem of energy is sorted out, he said adding, the government is employing every means to generate electricity. The CM highlighting the cooperation of local and foreign investment companies and said a number of agreements have been signed with Chinese companies. He said that ZTE Corporation China can also extend cooperation in energy sector. The CM said this while talking to a delegation of ZTE Corporation China led by its Vice President Le Guang Yong, here on Thursday. Matters regarding solar streetlights and cooperation in energy projects were discussed in the meeting.

The CM said steps are being taken for early implementation of the agreements signed with the Chinese companies in energy sector. He said that besides traditional methods of power production, rapid progress is also being made for implementation of the projects of generation of energy from alternative resources. He said that govnt has also devised a plan for the conversion of streetlights and traffic signals to solar energy under a phased programme and speedy progress is being made in this regard. VP of ZTE Corporation China Le Guang Yong speaking on the occasion said that his company is interested in promoting cooperation with Punjab govt in energy sector and joint ventures can be launched in this sector.
