ISLAMABAD  -  PM Imran Khan said that Information Ministry had key role in safeguarding the cultural values, norms and social fabric of the society from cultural invasion. Khan chaired a briefing on Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the PM Office.

Minister for Information Fawad Ahmed, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Iftikhar Durrani, SAPM Naeem-ul-Haq, Secretary to the Prime Minister Muhammad Azam Khan, Secretary Information/MD Pakistan Television Corporation Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera and senior government officials were present during the meeting. The secretary information gave a comprehensive presentation regarding the role of the ministry and its various attached departments.

The prime minister stated that Ministry of Information had a key role in perception management and projecting true image of the country. While keeping with the pace with highly-sophisticated world of information today, we must safeguard our society from cultural onslaught that endangered our cultural values, norms and the social fabric, observed the premier.

Discussing the affairs of state media broadcasters including PTV and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, the prime minister stressed on maintaining impartiality and directed to constitute a board of directors, comprising eminent persons of known integrity and professionalism to oversee administrative and financial affairs of these departments. Imran Khan directed for a comprehensive plan with delineated timelines for restructuring of the PTV in order to transform the organisation from a loss-making entity to a viable organisation.


State Minister for Interior Sheryar Khan Afridi Wednesday chaired a meeting to make necessary arrangements for ensuring security of pilgrims (Zaireen) visiting Iran, Iraq and other holy places for the upcoming month of Muharram. The high-ups of ministries of interior, religious affairs and inter-provincial coordination attended the meeting besides other departments concerned.

The meeting decided that a comprehensive policy would be made to provide foolproof security to the pigrims. The meeting decided that extensions would be made in immigration counters at Pak-Iran border and the deployment of FIA officials would be extended there in a move to facilitate pilgrims.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Interior says that the state minister ordered that additional security personnel would be deployed on the internal routes of Balochistan to be used by pilgrims. He stress that all stakeholders would work together for the provision of security

The chief secretary Balochistan gave a briefing to the meeting regarding the security issue facing Zaireen and the arrangements made so far in this connection.

The committee discussed to provide better facilities of immigration and transportation to pilgrims.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on last Sunday had directed the Ministry of Interior to make a comprehensive action plan in consultation with all stakeholders for the security of Zaireen visiting Iran, Iraq and other holy places abroad through land routes.

The prime minister had issued directives in a meeting that was held on the issue of security of pilgrims at the Prime Minister’s Office.
