Afghanistan vital for Pakistan, regional stability
ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday discussed latest situation in Afghanistan with leaders of Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar on telephone.
According to officials, PM Imran Khan held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the latest situation in Afghanistan.
Imran Khan conveyed warm wishes for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further fortify the historic fraternal ties with Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed the country’s support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Recalling the two historic Initiatives recently announced by the Crown Prince to tackle the adverse impacts of climate change and environmental degradation, the Prime Minister thanked the Crown Prince for inviting him to participate in the launch ceremony of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI), scheduled in Riyadh in October this year. The two leaders had a detailed discussion on the latest situation in Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was vital for Pakistan and regional stability.
He stressed that the international community had the responsibility to stand by the Afghan people and support them economically as well as to help rebuild the country. The Prime Minister emphasised the need to address the urgent humanitarian needs and take steps to ensure economic stability of Afghanistan.
Both the leaders agreed on the importance of an inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan.
It was further agreed that the international community must step up its engagement in order to avert any humanitarian and refugee crises. The Prime Minister and the Crown Prince agreed to work together to further augment and diversify bilateral ties in all spheres.
PM speaks to Abu Dhabi Crown Prince
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday had a telephone call with Mohamed Bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces.
The two leaders exchanged views on the issues of bilateral interest as well as regional developments, in particular the latest situation in Afghanistan. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the importance Pakistan attaches to its strong fraternal ties with UAE and close cooperation between the two countries.
On the latest situation in Afghanistan, Imran Khan underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in vital interest of Pakistan and the region. He underlined that an inclusive political settlement was the best way forward to ensure safety and security of the rights of Afghans, a press release issued here by the PM Media Wing said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the world community must remain engaged, to support the Afghan people, economically and to help rebuild the country. He emphasised the need to address the dire humanitarian requirements and to ensure economic stability of Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister congratulated the Crown Prince for making excellent arrangements for the upcoming Expo 2020. He conveyed his best wishes for the resounding success of the mega event.
The Prime Minister and the Crown Prince agreed to work together to enhance collaboration in all areas of common interest.
Also, Prime Minister Imran Khan held a telephone conversation with the Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday and the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen political and economic partnership with Qatar. He appreciated Qatar’s assistance to Pakistan during the pandemic, in particular the care afforded to more than 200,000 Pakistani expatriates working for progress and development of both countries.
The Prime Minister underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in vital interest of Pakistan and the region. He underlined that after 40 years of conflict and instability, there was an opportunity to establish lasting peace in Afghanistan.
Imran Khan emphasised that the world community must remain positively engaged and support the Afghan people at this crucial juncture – both economically and to help rebuild the country. This, he stressed, was crucial to avert humanitarian and refugee crises in the country.
The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact on bilateral matters as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the Indian government for snatching the body of Syed Ali Geelani and registering an FIR against his family for raising pro-Pakistan slogans.
Quoting a news from Times of India in a tweet on Sunday, he said snatching the body of the 92-year old Syed Ali Geelani, one of the most respected and principled Kashmiri leaders, and then registering cases against his family is just another shameful example of India’s descent into fascism under the Nazi-inspired RSS-BJP government.
Meanwhile in a tweet, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib has also condemned the Modi government for snatching and burying the body of late veteran Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani and then registering cases against his family in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In a tweet yesterday, he said that the condemnable act is a manifestation of fascism and RSS mindset of the Modi government.
