LAHORE - Punjab Agriculture Minister Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh on Monday claimed that under the Green Tractor Subsidy Scheme at least 9,430 tractors have been delivered to farmers so far against the target of 10,000 tractors. The Punjab government had advanced subsidy of Rs 200,000 per tractor to farmers under Green Tractor Subsidy Scheme. The minister was presiding over a high level meeting of Agriculture Department here at Punjab Agricultural Research Board. Punjab Agriculture Secretary Arif Nadeem, Punjab Seed Corporation Managing Director Ahsan Raja, Punjab Agricultural Research Board Chief Executive Dr Mubarak Ali, Punjab Agriculture Additional Secretary (Admn) Ahmed Javaid Qazi, Punjab Agri (Ext) Director General Anjum Ali, Punjab (Water Management) Director General Abdul Majeed and Punjab Agri. (Field) Director General Muhammad Yasin attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that Punjab Seed Corporation has fixed the target of 1,630,000 maund of Wheat Seed Procurement during the current season as compared to the last year procurements of 11,70,000 maunds. Ahmad Ali Aulakh reviewed the programme of wheat harvesting inauguration in Punjab province as well as arrangements of Wheat Seed Procurement during current season. The meeting was also informed that Punjab Seed Corporation has arranged 110,000 maunds cotton seed of seven approved varieties for sale during current year. Likewise 1,17,000 maunds seed of six approved varieties of rice will be provided to farmers. The minister directed the authorities concerned to make effective arrangements for wheat procurement at Rs 950 per 40-kg to encourage farmers for achieving the goal of self-sufficiency in wheat.
