Army ready to face challenges: Kayani

ISLAMABAD - Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that the army is and will remain fully prepared to meet the current and emerging internal and external threats. The army chief said this while chairing the 63rd Formation Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters on Monday, defence sources said. Gen Kayani highlighted the critical importance of unity of national efforts to overcome these challenges and emphasized that it was the full support of the nation, which enables the armed forces to thwart all hostile designs of the enemy. He said that despite limited resources, Pak army had the capability to defend the geographical boundaries of the country with the support of the people of the country. The Chief of the Army Staff dwelt at length on the full spectrum of issues relating to the armys operational and training matters. The COAS exhorted all commanders to devote all their efforts for training of their men as year 2009 has been declared 'Year of Training. The participants of the conference were given comprehensive briefing on security environment and operational and training matters. The briefings were followed by an open and purposeful discussion. Corps Commanders, Principal Staff Officers and Formation Commanders are attending the conference.
