KARACHI - The city council, through a unanimous resolution, has formed a committee to finalise legal formalities for the implementation of by-laws for hospitals and health centres. The city council met here Monday under the chair of naib city nazim, Nasreen Jalil. Dr. Nikhat Shaheen will head the committee while its members include Juman Darwan, Abdul Samee, Zahid Saeed and Sajid Baig. EDO (Health) or his representative will be the secretary of the committee. According to the proposals of the committee, no health product shall be registered unless it has been registered at federal health sector or production of NOC. Moreover, another resolution, regarding the ban on reimbursement to the concerned departments by the city government, was also unanimously passed and it was suggested that the House recommends ban on the payment to various departments or companies creating hurdles to the progressive works. Dr. Nikhat Shakeel answered the queries regarding the implementation of health by-laws. She said that private hospitals did not provide required data to the city government adding that overcharging for different medical tests would be controlled through these by-laws. Opposition member, Juman Darwan, suggested that the by-laws must also be made for pseudo medical practitioners playing with lives of common citizens. Dr. Nikhat assured him that foolproof laws in this regard would be proposed in the meetings of the said committee. Four other resolutions were also unanimously approved that dealt with the memorandum for amendment appraisal in the official documents regarding the increase in rents of shops, offices, stalls, and godowns in local markets; to attach seniority list with the BS-19 for the newly created post of OSD Enquiries; to increase the duration of public-private partnership programme between the city government and Habib University Foundation, regarding the Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents at UC3 Malir Town, up to 30 years. The House also lauded the efforts of City Nazim to initiate massive uplift works in the metropolis.
