It seems in fashion these days to criticize General Musharraf for nothing. Critics should pay heed that he projected a soft and moderate image of our society and did a lot for Pakistan, be it for the cause of economic revival, fight against extremism or giving freedom to media. A well-planned and coordinated effort is underway to taint President Musharraf's image and it is led by the obscurantist elements having a one-track mind focussed on nothing but revenge. In their lust for revenge, they are forgetting the fact that they are harming Pakistan's interests. If one were to look at their past, one would only find an abysmal track record. The problem is that we, as a nation, have a very short memory. I request our free media to refresh the nation's memory so that there is a clear distinction between the good and evil. -REHAN ZAMIN, Karachi, via e-mail, March 28.
