LAHORE - Pakistan Steel Sports Control Board (PSSCB) announced their football team for PFF-NBP National Football Challenge Cup to be played at Hyderabad from April 15-28 under aegis of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). The event has been revitalised after 2005 on instructions of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)'s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. It is an event for organizational and services team of Pakistan who used to appear in top-two Divisions of PFF. Syed Ahmed Ali Wasti has been named manager of the team while Nasir Abbas will perform duty as coach. The 23-players squad is comprised of Muhammad Akram (Captain), Abdul Hafeez (Vice-Captain), Haroon Rasheed, Mamoon Rasheed, Fazal Hussain, Muhammad Tariq, Abrar Ahmed, Muhammad Maqbool, Nadir Ali, Muhammad Bux, Muhammad Arshad, Kareem Bakhsh, Sarfraz, Muhammad Illyas, Muhammad Tariq, Nasir Ahmed, Muhammad Akmal, Najeeb Hassan, Naveed Raza, Aamir Wali, Adnan Iqbal, Baseer Ahmed and Abdul Wahab. It will be 19th event for departmental teams and third to be played under title "National Football Challenge Cup". The history of the event, incepted at Sindh's third largest city Sukkur in 1979, orbited around 29 years with most successful team Allied Bank Limited lifted the title four times. Pakistan Army, Faisalabad's Crescent Textile Mills and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) grabbed the gold on two occasions while single-time winners were Karachi Port Trust, Quetta's Marker Club, National Bank of Pakistan, Frontier Constabulary, Habib Bank Limited, Pakistan International Airlines,Sindh Government Press and Pakistan Navy. Navy will defend the title in the 32-match event and other 14 participants will be National Champions Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Pakistan Army, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), Habib Bank Limited (HBL), Lahore's Pak Elektron Limited (PEL), Pakistan Steel, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Air Force, Sindh Government Press (SGP) plus host DFA Hyderabad.
