KARACHI - Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notice to City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and other elected representatives over a suit of contempt of court till date in office. The single bench of SHC of Justice Mushir Alam was conducted the hearing over the suit filed by Ardeshir Kowasjee, former provincial minister, Irfan Murawat and others. He alleged that the city government, town administrator and others were involved in contempt of court by occupying the land of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) comprised of 49.25 acres located in Jamshed Town area, where the board had already set up a sewerage treatment plant. The plaintiffs alleged that City Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal, DCO Karachi Javed Hanif, MNA Waseem Akhtar, MPA Raza Haroon, naib nazim of Jamshed Town Zia Jamal, TPO Javid Akbar, Yaseen Gujjar, Chief Engineer KWSB Fazalurraham, EDO Ateeq Baig and EDO Works and Services Rasheed Mughal were involved in contempt of court. Despite of issuing stay-order by the said court on March 11 to sustain the condition of the land, but on March 15, the construction work by them had been resumed. They maintained that the KWSB land is aimed to use for commercial activities. Nazir of the court, who was assigned by the court to examine the land and submit the report about any current development, submitted his report in which he said that when he visited there to examine the situation, he learned that six digging machines were present there, and work of concrete mixtures was under process. Moreover, in another case, a single bench of SHC of Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui issued notice to the governments representatives on the petition moved by Sonia Khoso regarding harassment till April 13. Sonia of Sindh United Party (SUP) moved to SHC by Abdul Wahab Baloch advocate submitting that she has been harassed by the police as well as the representatives of a ruling party. The plaintiff submitted that she took part in the election of 2007 against the PPP candidate for PS-71 from Jamshoro; therefore since formation of their government, their workers along with the local police have been harassing her. The petitioner made respondent to the Sindh government, DPO Jamshoro and others. She also submitted that due to her involvement in the said election, her entire Khoso tribe members are also being harassed by the respondents. Meanwhile, Additional District Judge (south) Hafiza Usman on Monday issued production order of PPP worker Altaf Malbari till April 13. The court issued directive to the jail authority to produce Altaf Malbari before the court, on the application moved by his wife Bilqees Malbari for the acquittal of her husband from the case launched in Zia regime. Altaf Malbari was arrested in General Ziaul Haqs marshal-law regime in 1986 for participating in the agitation launched against Zia by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), meanwhile he was said to be associated with Al Zulfiqar Organisation led by slain chairman of PPP (SB) Mir Murtaza Bhutto. He has been detained in Karachi Central Jail since 1986 in the case of revolt, his wife claimed that he has never been produced before the court in any single hearing, she maintained that Altaf was indicted in false cases by the then government. She also alleged that her husbands case is under trial in the lower court, but the public prosecution has not taken any interest in the case and demanding bribes from her.
