LAHORE - The terrorists may hit girls schools and English medium institutions in the City, especially those with co-education system while the govt has decided to take high security measures to prevent any untoward incident. Intelligence reports reaching Punjab govt suggest that terrorists who have blown up many girls schools in Swat, are now planning to target English medium schools in big cities, including Lahore. While talking to The Nation, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Pervez Rathore confirmed that police had the information that English medium schools in the City may be the next target of terrorists. The police, he said, were in contact with owners of these institutions to enhance their security. All SHOs in the City have been asked to collect information about the exact number and location of English medium institutions and girls schools situated in their respective jurisdiction with a view to enhancing security at the school buildings. He said that all SPs and SPOs have also been directed to supervise the work of SHOs in this regard. Rathore further said that on the basis of information about security threat to educational institutions, a team of senior police officers remained in touch with owners and administration of English medium schools on Monday and collected information from them about the number of students, staff members and the level of their own security at school premises. 'We have asked school administrations to deploy security personnel at roof tops of school buildings besides installing CCTV cameras as security strategy, he told this scribe, while ,adding, that police have also collected telephone numbers from of persons running school to remain in contact with them in any emergent situation. The Police Chief apprehended that religious extremists active in Tribal Areas and Swat might target the English medium schools due their co-education system. All mobile squads in City, he said, have been activated with instructions to intensify patrolling in and around the areas where these institutions are located. They have also been instructed to ensure their maximum presence outside schools, he added. Monitoring Desk aad: The Interior Ministry has decided to intensify the security of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Governor Salman Taseer following the deteriorated law and order situation, reports Waqt TV on Monday. The ministry has written letters to CM Shahbaz Sharif, Governor Salman Taseer and cautioned them to remain careful in the public gatherings. The ministry has written the letters in the light of information provided by intelligence officials. The intelligence report feared that terrorists could target the CM and the governor.
