KARACHI - Following the directives of KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed, an extensive citywide fumigation campaign is being carried out in Karachi from April 7 to April 20.Rivers and drains will also be fumigated in the campaign to eliminate the outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases.Senior Director Health Services Dr Shoukat Zaman said that special teams had been formed for the next fumigation campaign in the city with the arrangement of all necessary insecticides and machinery at the district level. The campaign will be carried out at evening time.According to the schedule of fumigation, District South (Saddar & Lyari) will be covered on April 7-8, while the areas of Keamari, Orangi Town, Baldia Town and SITE Town in district West will be fumigated on April 9-10. Fumigation in District Central (Liaquatabad, Gulberg, North Nazimabad, and New Karachi) will be performed on April 11 and April 12, and the areas of Malir and Landhi on April 13-14. In the areas of District East, including Jamshed, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Korangi and Shah Faisal Colony, fumigation will be carried out on April 16, 17 18. Bin Qasim and Gadap area will be covered on April 19-20.German media team visits Nine-Zero:  A delegation of German journalists from the Deutscher Pressevertrieb DPV (German Press and Journalists’ Association) paid a visit to the MQM head office, Nine-Zero, and met its coordination committee deputy conveners Dr Farooq Sattar and Nasreen Jalil. The delegation comprised Ms Hilde Regenitor, Mr Markus Schwarz and Mr Arnufl Stofel.Political and financial matters of Pakistan came under discussion during the meeting that lasted for over two hours. Members of the coordination committee, Kunwar Khalid Yunus and Mustafa Kamal were also present on the occasion.Farooq Sattar briefed the visiting journalists about the political ideology and philosophy of MQM chief Altaf Hussain and the causes behind the formation of the MQM. He told the delegation about the services of the MQM for strengthening democracy in the country and the efforts it was making for the abolition of the decaying feudal system and culture of hereditary politics.Sattar also informed the delegates about the welfare programmes of the MQM, saying his party was the only political group in the country that had its origin and roots in the middle class. He said the MQM was relentlessly pursuing its objective of weeding out the feudal system and hereditary politics with a view to empowering the masses. Sattar said the feudal system and hereditary politics had done nothing rather than promoting corruption. He said that it was because of its voice against the oppressive feudal system that the MQM was subjected to a repressive state operation in which over 15,000 party workers were killed, including the brother and nephew of Altaf Hussain, extra-judicially in cold blood.The delegation expressed sorrow over the injustices to the MQM, and lauded its efforts for the promotion of democracy in the country.
