ISLAMABAD - The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, ostensibly in a bid to curb the CNG business in the country, has decided to set gas quota for Compressed Natural Gas stations. In case of extra sale, stations will have to bear additional tariff.

Talking to media persons, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain said it would be up to the CNG stations to use their gas quota either in a day or in seven days, as the ministry was contemplating to end loadshedding of CNG sector with gas limited defined gas quota. He was of the view that industrial sector in the name of captive power was utilising 250-mmcfd gas. However, gas in captive power was being wasted, so within six months gas provision to the captive power would be stopped. Petroleum Minister also said that for reduction in the prices of POL products, provinces would have to pay subsidy. He further said that provinces would be asked to reduce their GST to reduce the prices of POL products at the occasion of Energy Conference scheduled for April 9. He further said implementation on the decision of Supreme Court regarding complete deregulation of the prices of POL products had been started and in future oil pricing would be specified on daily basis.
