ISLAMABAD - Announcing his decision to boycott meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Friday made it clear that his party would oppose restoration of NATO supply line at every forum.‘JUI-F would not succumb to any pressure on NATO supply line issue. We would oppose it conditionally or unconditionally at every forum’, he said while talking to the media. To a question, he said that the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) was called to decide policy of freedom and sovereignty of the country but having some reservations he has decided to boycott the committee meeting.‘All out efforts are being made that the decision for restoration of NATO supply line be made from Parliament’, he added.Maulana had already expressed its serious reservations over any expected decision to restore the NATO supply line in future. He even did not formally participate in the debate going on in joint sitting of the Parliament, as he raised his reservation on point of order. He also revealed that decision for restoration of NATO supply line had already been taken. To a question, JUI-F chief also criticised recent statement of President Asif Ali Zardari about the father of Nawaz Sharif. Talking about domestic violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill 2009, Maulana Fazlur Rahman also announced that he would not attend joint sitting of the Parliament. He also expressed serious reservation on domestic violence Bill, saying that it would prove damaging for our eastern family system if it is passed. It is relevant to mention here that Maulana lashed out at NGOs when this Bill was presented in joint sitting of the Parliament other day. He had proposed to refer the Bill to Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) to reexamine certain clauses, but Treasury Benches made it clear that the Bill could not be referred to the Council as per the procedure. The Bill once again would be presented in the joint session on April 9th for further discussion.
