KARACHI - Former federal minister for human rights and retired attorney general of Pakistan, Senator Iqbal Haider, on Friday appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari to contact the Indian authorities for the release of Dr Sayyaid Mohammad Khaleel Chishty from a prison in Ajmer. In his letter addressed to President Zardari, Haider exhorted him to request the Indian president, prime minister to secure the release of Dr Chishty who had been languishing in the jail since long.Haider also reminded the president of his generous humanitarian gesture of releasing Indian prisoner Gopal Das in early 2011 in response to a request by Justice Markandey Katju of the Indian Supreme Court. He expressed confidence that if similar request was made by President Zardari to his Indian counterpart or premier, they would be morally obliged to reciprocate the humanitarian gesture, by ordering release of Dr Chishty from Ajmer prison.
