LAHORE - The 1st JA Zaman Golf Tournament commenced here at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Saturday. JA Zaman, 95-year-old golfer of Lahore Gymkhana, hit the tee shot to open the tournament. Zaman has been playing golf for the past five decades and is simultaneously considered an icon of the world of apparel, known by the name of Leisure Club. In this regard a press conference was also held which was addressed by Omer Zaman, Hamid Zaman, Agha Ali Imam (Lahore Gymkhana) and Amir Mehmood (Lahore Gymkhana). Hamid Zaman of Leisure Club committed that they would make this golf event iconic and raised it to a level of excellence in the Pakistan golf arena. He also committed that they would support and sponsor a few talented youngsters and promote their golfing careers. The tournament includes event for the ladies, seniors, veterans and amateurs. In the 18 holes competition for seniors, the field consisted of 60 competitors in the age bracket 55 years and above. At the end of the 18 holes the seniors came up with scores that can be graded as amazing. Col (r) Asif Mehdi had a round of gross 71, one under par, this score achieved with the help of three birdies, 13 regulation pars and only two bogies. The other scores of quality came from the clubs of players like Qayum Rashid (gross 74), Lt Col (r) M Shafi (gross 74), Javed A Khan (gross 75) and Shafiq Bhatti (gross 78). The prize distribution ceremony will be held at 4:30pm here at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course today (Sunday).
