ISLAMABAD - Six wind power projects having capacity of 330 MW are at advance stages and ready to achieve financial closing in 2014.Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) has planned these wind power projects in collaboration with private sector on IPP mode, which are located in Gharo and Jhimpir, Thatta district, Sindh. AEDB sources told APP on Sunday two wind power projects of 49.5 MW and 56.4 MW capacity respectively, located at Jhimpir, were now operational. Three other projects of 150 MW capacity were under construction and would be completed this year. Two of these projects are located at Gharo and one at Jhimpir, they added. 

The electricity being produced by the projects is being purchased by Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).  The sources said the board was pursuing and facilitating the development of wind power projects through private sector under Renewable Energy Policy of the government.
