ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) patron Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas, who is also the vice president of Asian Tennis Federation, congratulated Pakistan team on winning Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group-II tie against Philippines at Manila.

Talking to The Nation on Sunday, he said: “After losing the first two singles on the inaugural day, Pakistan bounced back strongly and won the doubles and reduced the hosts’ lead. And on the last day, they have proved that they are one of the bests in the business.”

“Now Pakistan will play final of Asia Ocean Davis Cup Group II against Thailand from September 12-14, 2014 where Pakistan has choice of ground,” he said and added: “It is one of the biggest victories of the recent times and Aisam and Aqeel along with captain M Khalid deserve all the credit. I hope they will continue giving such best performances in future too.”

Meanwhile, ex-Pakistan Davis Cup coach Fazle Subhan has also congratulated Pakistan winning squad and lauded the great services of PTF chief Kaleem Imam whose sincere efforts bore fruit and Pakistan won the crucial tie. Pakistan badly needed this victory, as national cricket team failed to make it to the World T20 finals so this victory will unite the nation,” Subhan concluded.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Sports Board (SBP) Director General Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, Director National Federations M Azam Dar, PTF vice president M Arif Qureshi and others congratulated Pakistan Davis Cup team for their historical win against Philippines.
