Completion of first bone marrow transplant centre in current year

Jamaat-e-islami Punjab Ameer Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar said that Pakistan’s first bone marrow transplant centre will be completed this year and become functional in Bahawalpur.
Addressing a meeting at Thalassaemia ward here, Dr Wasim said that the project would be completed with Rs300 million and with its completion, modern treatment facility would be available to people of this region. This centre will be equipped with all types of blood test facility which will provide help in the prevention of ancestral diseases and treatment of blood cancer will become possible, he added.
The JI stalwart informed that the bone marrow transplant centre would have services of qualified doctors including famous Dr Tahir Hashmi from Karachi and Dr Ziauddin from Saudi Arabia.
He said that a seven members committee had been set up under the supervision of renowned pathologist Dr Syed Sajid Hassan which would review and supervise construction of the Bone Marrow Transplant Centre and installation of equipment.
