SCCI concerned over ‘hurdles’ by customs

Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has expressed grave concern over the halt of Sialkot-based exporters’ import shipments at Karachi Dry Port by the customs officials.
SCCI President Fazal Jillani said that the exporters had the facility of importing duty-free shipments through the Karachi Dry Port, but the customs officials were halting these shipments besides creating hurdles in the smooth way of importing raw material.
He said that the Sialkot exporters were much perturbed due to this critical situation and suffering great ordeal and financial losses in this way.
He said that the Sialkot exporters were already suffering great ordeal in manufacturing products due to the prevailing energy crisis, as they were unable to ensure timely dispatch of their export consignments to their foreign buyers.
He said that the exporters were importing duty-free raw material shipments. He said that inordinate delay in clearance of import consignments by the customs officials at Karachi Dry Port was irking the Sialkot exporters. He urged the federal government to look into the matter in the larger interest of the business community.
FAREWELL: Model Collectorate of Customs Sialkot organised a farewell ceremony in the honour of outgoing customs officials Syed Khalid Javaid Shah and Ashiq Hussain Shehzad.
Collector Customs Sialkot Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhry highly hailed their performance. He termed them asset of the department. The collector also gave them the appreciation certificates. Additional Collector Customs Khawaja Khurram, Deputy Collector Asdaq Afzal, Assistant Commissioner Collectors Palwasha Syed, Syed Karim Adil, Fawad Chaudhry, Principal Appraisers Abdul Hamid Jarral, Muhammad Umer, Syed Akmal Hussain Shah and other customs staff officials were also present.
