Islamabad - The Islamabad Traffic Police, on average, challaned over 1300 road-users for violation of the traffic rules daily in the federal capital, suggests the data.

The ITP took action against 118,859 vehicles during the first 3 months of 2018, on average 1320 vehicles daily, the data collected by the police shows. The ITP took action against 40151 bike-riders for violating traffic rules in the said period. Separately, the police challaned 10125 vehicles for using ‘fancy’ number plates, 15782 drivers were fined for not using seat belts while driving, 10544 for using mobile phone while driving, 4795 for not using number plates at all, 12141 over lane violation, 9560 for wrong parking, 6873 for over speeding, 5470 for violating traffic signal, 3207 for using tinted glasses and 211 drivers were fined for their vehicles emitting smoke in excessive limit, according to the data. The police, in the three months, also impounded 3493 vehicles in different police stations of the city.

According to the ITP officials, they have constituted special squads for monitoring the road-users. The ITP has set up special pickets at 30 different points on the city roads which will help maintain smooth flow of traffic. The ITP said that it also helped 25282 road-users during the period.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police arrested 16 outlaws including nine drug-pushers as well as bootleggers and recovered 1.135 kilogram hashish, six liter wine and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said. Following directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Najeeb ur Rehman Bugvi, Islamabad police arrested 16 outlaws including nine drug pushers from various areas of the city. Aabpara police arrested Khuram Mushtaq and Fahim Akram and recovered a total of 335 gram hashish from their possession. Kohsar police arrested three drunk identified as Sabir, Naeem Akhter and Aurangzaib. Karachi Company police arrested Hafez for decanting gas in cylinders illegally.

Ramana police arrested Rehmat and recovered 450 gram hashish. Sabzi Mandi police arrested Najeeb and recovered 350 gram hashish from him. Noon police recovered two pistols along with ammunition from two accused Abdul-Hafeez and Sami-Ullah. Koral police arrested Asfand Yar and Irshad involved in selling petroleum products illegally. Sihala police arrested two bootleggers Rafqat and Abdul Rehman and recovered six liter wine from their possession. The police have registered cases against these persons and further investigation is underway.
