“Indeed, Allah enjoins justice, and the doing of good to others; and giving like kindred; and forbids indecency, and manifest evil, and wrongful transgression. He admonished you that you may take heed.” Quran 16:9
“However, if the one, who is wrongly behaving, exceeds the limits in revenge, then he will also be guilty to the degree of his excess. Thus, even though, revenge is permissible, it is better to forgive and be patient. Abusing is strictly prohibited and condemned in Islam. Taunting is to rebuke or reproach, mockingly or disgracefully insult or humiliate someone, for e.g. with reference to his lineage, height or appearance or shortcoming. Narrated Ibn Mas’ood (may God be pleased with him), ‘Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “A true believer is not involved in taunting or frequently cursing or in indecency or abusing.”
Abusing others is repulsive by reason of crass disregard of moral or ethical principles. Lack of education and courtesy, lack of sense and spirit among students to become decent and civilized person are main causes of abusing other because many students do not have the passion to learn moralities and etiquettes to live better life. Some students feel pleasure and pride to abuse other even in normal situation. They start their sentence with abusive words and end it with harsh or insulting words. It has become a common culture in our educational institutions that most of the students use dirty and outrageous words in their conversation. Use of indecent and offensive words is a stigma on the very face of our society. Therefore, students must avoid bad habit of abusing others. A child learns abusive language or obnoxious words from parents or elders who abuse each other or one another and remain ready to argue illogically or disagree in presence of their innocent progeny.
Students’ politeness and courtesy, decency and delicacy of behaviour increase endurance and forbearance. The consideration and style to use soft words are sagacious students’ praiseworthy traits. These traits create positive and result-oriented effects on human beings’ mood and matters while abusive language is always based on humiliating and disgusting behaviour and it reflects improper and condemnable character and conduct which create negative and far-reaching bad effects on students and society. There will be no students’ spiritual and moral development. Moreover, every person who violates the divine injunctions and abuses; he or she will have to face its bitter consequences of abusing; in this world and hereafter too. A true Muslim should never hurt others feelings by abusing or disgracing or by any other way because it has been ordained in Hadith that a Muslim should not harm any Muslim with his tongue or hand.
Students and other persons; riding on chariots; drawn by twin horses of hatred and vengeance abuse others. They always consider themselves superior to others and treat others unfairly by abusing. Electronic media can also play vital role to eradicate this culture. All the religious scholars, educationists, intellectuals and discerning persons and personalities should make their individual and collective efforts wholeheartedly to educate and train every student, specially youth to be well-mannered and well-versed, well-civilized and responsible citizens of Pakistan. By delivering impressive and inspiring sermons and speeches and by writing effective articles and by utilizing print and electronic media; patriotic Pakistanis can shun and uproot this social evil.
