PESHAWAR Taking notice of demonstrations and protest camp, Small Industries Development Board on the directives of Registrar Labour Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, declared activities of SIDB employees union illegal and sealed their office in Peshawar. TheNation learnt that Abdul Hafeez, registrar labour department, issued a notification to SIDB maintaining that the directorate has not issued fresh CBA certificate to any registered trade union working in the establishment of SIDB under the IRA, 2010 till date. And the employees union was standing illegal, on which the SIDB administration in the presence of Bhana Mari Policemen sealed its office, maintaining that the office would be accorded to a union of employees, which prove its majority in referendum. Earlier, the SIDB, Peshawar, Joint Director Administration through a letter informed the President SIDB Employees Union, Nasim Khan, saying that the two years period of the existing employees union was expired on 25-5-2011 and no fresh CBA has been issued by the competent authority so far. It said that another union was also registered by the labour welfare directorate KP under the name of SIDB Employees Welfare Union and they were also insisting for provision of union office but were not issued any CBA yet, the letter informed. The joint directorate administration of SIDB Peshawar directed the Employees Union, which it called defunct, to stop all the activities on the forum of SIDB as it has no more legal status and in these circumstances SIDB management has no option but to seal the existing union office in order to avoid further complications. It is pertinent to mention here that at the end of July, SIDB Employees Union staged protest demonstrations against alleged corruption and embezzlement by Managing Director SIDB, Akhtar Hussain and other management staff under the auspices of its president Sahibzada Nasim Khan. They also set up protest camp near Peshawar Press Club demanding stern action against 'corrupt officials. PPP Labour Wing provincial President, Tila Muhammad and other senior leaders of the Labour Federation also supported the SIDB Employees Union stand against the MD and other management. They maintained that the corrupt MD SIDB has been started malpractices and violating the rules regulations of the industrial sector making illegal appointments and transfers of the employees. , adding the huge financial corruptions and alleged nepotism and favoritism has brought the SIDB on the verge of destruction. The corruptions of the stated MD Akhtar Hussain Shah has already been brought in to the notices of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, provincial Minister for Industries, concerned high-ups and PPP provincial President Syed Zahir Ali Shah but due to his close links with certain political parties leaders no disciplinary action could initiated against the corrupt officials, office bearers of SIDB Employees Union maintained.
