HAFIZABAD-More than 12 chairmen and vice chairmen of different union councils have strongly condemned the alleged rascality of police in the area.

They called upon the DPO, IGP and Chief Minister to take prompt measures to control the cruelty of the police.

Ch Zafarullah Khan and Saifullah, chairman and vice chairman of UC Tahli Goraya; Rai Sultan Safdar and Shahid Irfan of UC Matteki; Ch Rab Nawaz Tarar and Pervaiz Ahmad of UC Kot Said Muhammad; Ch Hayat and Sohail of UC Sandhwan Tarar; and Ch Bakhsh Tarar and Ch Jahan Khan Tarar of UC Rasulpur Tarar said that during the past few days the police were torturing and humiliating innocent citizens. They said that it was violation of human rights. They said that they would shortly convene a meeting of all the chairmen and vice chairmen of the union councils to chalk out future course of action.

Likewise, the Anjuman-e-Arthian Sabzi Mandi strongly flayed the FIA and Saddr police Hafizabad for "unlawfully" arresting president of the Anjuman Arshad Mehmood and humiliating him in public. They appealed to the DPO to take stern action against the cops who had unnecessarily harassed and humiliated the elected president of the Anjuman.

According to office-bearers of the Anjuman, FIA team of Lahore along with Saddr police raided the Sabzi Mandi to arrest Arshad son of Ghulam Nabi but arrested the president and bundled him in a vehicle. The traders of the Mandi gathered there and questioned the raiding party for what offence they have arrested Mehr Arshad Mehmood and told them that the father's name of Mehr Arshad is different from the wanted accused Arshad. After that the raiding party set Mehr Arshad on liberty and arrested the wanted accused Arshad son of Ghulam Nabi.

Admin all set for anti-polio drive: World Health Organisation Representative Dr Junaid Saulat was assured by the district administration that it would utilise all the resources to ensure 100 percent vaccinations of kids in the three-day anti-polio campaign starting from August 8.

While reviewing the arrangements made by the Health Department regarding the campaign, the district administration said it would be prime duty of all the departments particularly Health Department to ensure strict monitoring of the campaign. EDO Health M Aslam Shaheen briefed the meeting that 482 mobile teams including 87 Area Incharge and 42 Zonal Supervisors have been deputed to ensure administration of anti-polio drops to 193,053 kids below five years. The representative of WHO said that 13 cases of polio have so far been reported in the country and an all-out effort should be made to eliminate the fatal disease from the country.

Afzal Tarar restored as UC chairman: Ch Afzal Hussain Tarar was restored as the chairman of Union Council 8 Kolo Tarar by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Mamoon Jafar Tarar of PTI was declared winner in the local bodies election held in 2015 but on the application of Afzal Tarar for recounting of votes, the Returning Officer declared Afzal the winner. Later, both the parties indulged in litigation and the EC and LHC declared Mamoon Jafar Tarar as winner. Later, Afzal Tarar filed an appeal with the SC which was accepted and the court restored him as chairman of the UC. Ex-MNA Ch Afzal is father of State Minister Saira Afzal Tarar.
