MIRPUR (AJK)-Police hosted a grand ceremony to give away awards to the Pak Army troops, law enforcers, returning officers and Mirpur administration officers in acknowledgement of their role during general election of July 21.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Irfan Salim highlighted the salient features of holding of the grand event at the Police Lines in the city. The ceremony was largely attended by senior and subordinate civil and military officials, returning officers and senior journalists.

Prominent among those attended the ceremony included DIG Police Sardar Gulfraz Ahmed, Brigadier Gulzar Ahmed, Army officers, Mirpur-based heads of ISI, MI and IB, Additional Commissioner Tariq Mahmood, Deputy Commissioner Amjad Iqbal, DIGs of Police from Muzaffarabad, returning officers Mirpur District Sardar Shah Zaman, Raja Shamraiz Ahmed and others.

IGP Bashir Memon applauded the role of all the law-enforcement agencies, AJK Election Commission, Pakistan Army, the civil administration including police as well as media for ensuring the holding of the July 21 Legislative Assembly elections in free, fair and transparent manner.

He added that no doubt these were the most free and fair polls held in absolutely peaceful atmosphere in the electoral history of Azad Jammu & Kashmir as independent analysts also acknowledged the transparency of the polls.

He said that its credit goes to the stakeholders. He added all the stakeholders performed their due role with full responsibility and to the best of their respective professional skills and abilities - for which they all deserve high applause. The IGP gave away awards to the officers in recognition of their respective outstanding performance for ensuring the peaceful holding of the polls.
