Lahore - The PPL Balochistan Football Cup 2016 final round will stroll into action today (Sunday) at the Ayub Stadium, Quetta.

The first quarterfinal will be played between the district teams of Turbat and Kharan. Teams from Turbat, Kharan, Chaman, Harnai, Loralai, Khuzdar, Quetta and Jaffarabad qualified for the quarterfinals. The semi-finals will be played on August 10 while the final will be held on August 12. Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Managing Director Syed Wamiq Bokhari said: “Governor Balochistan M Khan Achakzai will grace the occasion as chief guest. Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Aamer Riaz HI (M), Provincial Interior Minister Mir Sarfaraz Khan Bugti, Minister for Sports Mir Mujeeb ur Rehman, M Hasani will also grace the occasion as guests of honour.”

Wamiq said that the PPL, which was the title sponsors of the event, particularly picked up Balochistan in view of the local interest in the game and their company’s long association with the province. “As many as 32 district teams took part in the qualifying round which was held between July 26 to 30 and was featured by Noshki, Gawadar, Khuzdar, Usta Mohammed, Ziarat and Muslim Bagh where thousands of local fans enjoyed thrilling competition between the participating teams.”

Wamiq said that sponsoring the current event was in fact to repay the trust and support of the people of Balochistan, which they bestowed upon them in last 64 years.

“The PPL has allocated Rs 15 million for the tournament with attractive incentives and prizes for all teams playing the qualifying and final rounds. As part of its commitment to communities and promoting a healthy lifestyle, the PPL has sponsored this event for promoting football in Balochistan.

“The Balochistan Football Cup is the richest ever event held in Pakistan. We have provided quality kits matching with FIFA standard, shoes and also daily allowance to every players and official,” Wamiq said.

To a query, the PPL MD applauded the efforts of the Balochistan government in bringing peace and stability in the province which made their task easy to invest in football. “I am thankful to the community for their presence and also grateful to Balochistan’s districts and provincial government, Southern Command, HQ 33 Division and the Balochistan Football Association (BFA) for their assistance and effective management of the tournament.”
