The news that Punjab government has launched a computerised system for monitoring of medicines and medication in public sector hospitals should be a source of contentment to the masses. Under this new system, records of medicines will be maintained online and their shortage will be monitored. In addition, records of patients at OPDs, emergencies and medical wards will also be available online. Besides this, a computerised attendance system has also been introduced to ensure that doctors are not absent from their duty. This system has been made operative in Services Hospital and Mayo Hospital, Lahore. It is pertinent to mention here that this initiative is a joint venture of the Punjab Health department and the City District Government Lahore. It is hoped that the government remains firm and determined to provide all the basic health facilities to the public.
