LAHORE - Mubashir Khokhar, brother of nominated provincial minister Malik Asad Khokhar, was killed on Friday night by unknown assailants who opened fire during the wedding ceremony of the latter’s son in DHA area of Lahore.
Mubashir Khokar was shifted to hospital in a critical condition, but he could not survive, police said.
According to the eyewitnesses, the incident took place soon after the departure of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. The accused involved in the incident was arrested by the CM’s security team.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Dr Shahbaz Gill said that the attackers opened fire very close to chief minister’s car, but he remained unhurt. “Later, the chief minister’s security team arrested the attacker,” Gul added in his tweet. Police also confirmed the arrest of the attacker and said that evidence was being collected from the crime site.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office said that according to the initial investigations, the firing incident appeared to be the outcome of personal vengeance.
The chief minister directed to hold a comprehensive inquiry into the security arrangements taken at the wedding ceremony. The CM further directed that action should be taken against those found responsible for any lapse in the security. He also ordered to take action according to the law against the accused. The CM also sought a report from Punjab Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani in this regard.
Earlier in the day, Asad Khokar had a meeting with Usman Buzdar at the Chief Minister’s Office. The CM conveyed to him the decision of his reappointment as provincial minister. A press release later issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said that Mr Khokar would take oath as minister on Saturday (Today).
