KARACHI - The two-day extended trials to pick two Karachi teams for Quaid-e-Azam Trophy concluded here on Saturday at the National Stadium on Saturday. As many as 116 players appeared in the trials which originally was set for one day but was extended into second day when the number of those wishing to appear in the trials exceeded the expected number. A three-member selection committee led by former test opener Muhammad Ilyas and assisted by Jalaluddin and Basit Ali watched 77 players on the first day and the remaining players on the second day on Saturday. The selectors have recommended names of 40 players from which the two teams of 20-member each will be named by the PCB. Similar trials will be held in other 10 cricket regions. Each cricket region has a separate selection committee. The Quaid Trophy, blue ribbon of Pakistan cricket is expected to begin from January 2. Nine departments HBL, NBP, PIA, Customs, ZTBL, KRL, Wapda, Sui Southern, Sui Northern and 13 teams of 11 regions will appear in the event. Karachi will enter two teams, Karachi Whites and Karachi Blues. Similarly, Lahore will field Lahore Ravi and Lahore Shalimar. Other cricket regions Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Abbotabad, Peshawar and Quetta will enter one team each.
