KARACHI - Pakistan Arts Council Karachi will hold the first National Excellence Awards ceremony on 20th December for the renowned personalities of the country who had rendered meritorious services in various fields, sources told The Nation on Saturday. The National Excellence Awards ceremony under Pakistan Arts Council will be held every year to encourage legendary personalities and the winners would be included in the jury from 2009, Secretary Arts Council Ahmed Shah said. He added the said ceremony would be held in the honour of renowned personalities belonging to fine arts, literature and performing arts being displayed at the Arts Council. Shah said that various fields and departments, which were being considered for nomination of the awards, included theatre, literature, paintings, poetry, fiction, sculptures, instrumental music, gazal singing, calligraphy and others. He further said that the ceremony would be organised in befitting manner. He said the governing body of Arts Council was looking after the matters of organisation of the ceremony and a jury would select the personalities for awards in the above-mentioned fields. Chairman Koocha Saqafat Arts Council, Saifur Rehman Grami, said that the first National Excellence Awards would be given as lifetime achievement award to those artists, writers, poets, painters, classical dancers, musicians, Gazal singers and others, who had worked devotedly in their respective professions. The governing body of Arts Council has decided that instead of organising musical conference, which had earlier planned, a lifetime achievement awards on annual basis would be held every year in the honour of renowned artists of different fields.
