LAHORE Army kept their hopes alive in the four-horse race as they collected much-needed three points against HBL at Korangi Baloch Stadium, Sharafi Goth, Karachi with 2-1win. Meanwhile, KRL saw the frustration of losing two more points when they were held to 0-0 draw by KPT at Peoples Sports Complex, Mauripur Road , Lyari Town. With 169 of 182 matches completed, Army and KRL joined Pakistan WAPDA on 51 points, behind 54-points League Leader Pakistan Navy. The clash between KPT and KRL saw both the teams applied cautious and defensive tactics and reliance was on quick breakaways. It was 0-0 at interval with both keepers - Sajid Hussain (KPT) and Ghulam Nabi (KRL) had easy work to do under the bar. The second half did provide real sitters but the keepers of both teams were equal to task again .KRL collected 51 points from 23 matches as compared to KPTs 38 points in 24 matches HBL failed to resist against Armys comeback that saw two goals in 141 seconds, and went down 1-2. Spearhead Muhammad Ishtiaq gave them 13th minute lead following skilfull display by Khayal Muhammad on right wing. It was Ishtiaqs 11th goal of the event and he joined second highest scorer PELs Asmat Ullah. Currently at Dhaka, Arif Mehmood (WAPDA) is on top of scorers list with 20 goals while players with 10 goals are Nomi Martin Gill (Navy), Bilal Ahmed (HBL), Abdul Rehman (KESC) and Zahid Ahmed (KPT). The soldiers re-grouped themselves in no time and wing full back Tanveer Shahid drew level in the 33rd minute with long-range drive. Hardly two minutes had elapsed striker Abid Ali hammered the second goal. Army led 2-1 at interval and packed the defence and indulged in man-to-man marking in second session to deny the bankers equalizer. Army secured 51 points in 23 matches while HBL completed 24 matches, producing 29 points. Earlier last night, Nushkis Baloch FC recorded honor-saving 1-0 win over PMC Athletico at Nushki Stadium, Nushki. It was 25th match for both the teams. PMC collected 21 points as compared to already-relegated Nushkis Baloch FCs five points. The all important goal of the fierce match was scored by winger Saif Ullah in the 71st minute. It was Saifs second goal of the event and ninth for Nushki outfit who will play in PFF league - Tier II competition of PFF - next year.
