HYDERABAD (APP) - Federal Minister for Petroleum and Privatisation Syed Naveed Qamar has said that strength of the country and the democracy depends on strong institutions and the government has moved forward another step of giving ownership rights to workers. The Minister expressed these remarks while speaking as chief guest at the certificate distribution ceremony of Benazir Employees Stock Auction Scheme among the workers of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) at Tando Alam Oil Field on Sunday. The scheme has been launched in all 80 institutions of the country from Sunday with objective to involve the workers community of getting ownership rights of the institutions and make them more operative for the progress and progress of the country. A total of 12.5 percent share of OGDCL will be given to the employees of the organisation. The minister said that the present government has initiated this step following the vision of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to empower the workers community so that the country could move forward for progress and prosperity with rapid pace. The government has initiated this revolutionary step to make Pakistan a developed and democratic country for the future generation. He maintained that no right of workers community would be usurped after giving them ownership right as one of their representatives will look after their rights in the institutions board of director. Under Benazir Employees Stock Auction Scheme, the minister said that institutions will further be strengthened with increase in the profit and ultimately the enhancement in the dividend for workers. He informed that 0.5 million ownership certificates would be given to workers according to their period of employment and the workers could get maximum 20 certificates. The workers will get 50 percent profit during the period of employment and remaining amount of the profit will be given to them after their retirement from service, he added. He informed that after December 16, 2009, the distribution of dividend would be started. The minister on the occasion announced the upgrading of Kunnar Oil field Dispensary to the level of 20 bedded hospital. He also announced the upgrading of Seri Dispensary so that the people of the area could get advanced medical facilities. Naveed Qamar also announced that hospitals like Agha Khan Hospital, Isra University Hospital and Rajputana Hospital would be taken on panel for the workers of OGDCL. Respond to the demand of the termination of contract system, the minister said that the system is the symbol of dictatorial rule and the present government is gradually regularising the services of all contract employees of the organisation. Meanwhile, in a brief chat with media persons, the Minister said that he had accepted ministry of petroleum as a challenge and the President Asif Ali Zardari is taking keen interest for development of oil and gas sector. Responding to a question, the minister said that petroleum prices have been increased by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority keeping in view the raise of petroleum prices in the international market. The OGRA is not under the control of the Ministry of Petroleum, he added. Replying to another question, Syed Naveed Qamar said that privatisation of 21 organisations will be carried out, however, the process of privatisation of these institutions will take time. Among others, MPA Syed Muhsin Shah Bukhari, Ex-MPA Haji Muhammad Amin Lakho, Managing Director OGDCL Syed Zahid Hussain and leader of OGDCL Workers Union Chaudhry Muhammad Akram were also present on the occasion.
