ISLAMABAD - Senator Jamal Khan Leghari while hunting in the area of Kot Chutta (Basti Shero) in District DG Khan exchanged fire with another party that too was hunting illegally in the area on Sunday. According to sources another party that was also on the hunt opened fire at some animal and hearing the gunshots Jamal Legharis comrades also fired in that direction, fearing attack on their group. The sources said that sensing heavy fire from opposite side the other party fled the scene fearing the wildlife team had reached to nab them. When this correspondent tried to contact Senator Jamal Leghari, his cell phone did not respond. However, people close to him assured that Jamal Leghari was safe. It is relevant to note here that despite strict ban on hunting illegally, the practice goes unchecked in those areas. APP adds - Some unidentified persons fired gunshots in the direction of a motorboat carrying Senator Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari on Sunday, however, he remained unhurt. Rana Akram Khalid, Secretary to the younger brother of Jamal Khan Leghari and former federal minister Awais Khan Leghari, said the Senator and his companions were hunting when they heard gunshots from other side of the Indus River. The senators security guards also returned fire forcing the accused to flee, he added. However, he stated that the Senator and his companions remained safe because they were at a longer distance. Akram further said that it was unclear whether the attack was targeted. He, however, added the criminals had their hideouts in the riverine area. SHO Darahma Police Station said the police had started investigation into the incident.
