KARACHI - The people of Sindh have celebrated a unique cultural day - the Sindhi Topi Day - for the first time in the history of the province here on Sunday. Thousands of people from different walks of life and workers and supporters of many leading political parties and nationalist parties have participated in different events of the first-ever Sindhi Topi and Ajrak Day, observed in the province to uphold the dignity of the Sindhi tradition. It was observed that they were very passionate about making the essence of the day alive. Several rallies have taken out from different cities and the districts of Sindh including Karachi. The political workers of the PPP, MQM, ANP, JSQM, Sindh National Party and many others found engaged in celebrating the day. Thousands of 'Sindhi Topis (caps) and 'Ajraks were distributed among the people in the rallies, while the effigies of the controversial anchor of a private TV channel were set on fire. The participants chanted slogans against the private channel and its anchor. In this connection, various programmes including rallies, seminars, and musical shows were organised by the cultural groups, civil society and the political parties to mark the day under the cultural promotion and preservation initiatives. Sindhi Topi and Ajrak are the symbols of Sindhi culture and civilisation since thousands of years and the people of Sindh have an emotional attachment with these symbols. The workers of PPP, Jiye Sindh Qaumi Muhaz, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, MQM and ANP conducted rallies and programmes to celebrate the day. Thousands of political parties workers and people from all walks of life arrived outside the Karachi Press Club and expressed their solidarity with the civilisation of Sindh. They observed the day by wearing Ajraks and Topis. The participation of non-Sindhi speaking communities in celebrations has successfully passed the message of unity and brotherhood, as Sindh is the land of patriotic people as they came out to spread the message of peace. The central rally was taken out from Karachi Press Club to Sindh Assembly building in which thousands of PPP, ANP and workers of others parties took part in the rally which was welcomed by Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza along with the women MPAs outside the Sindh Assembly. They showered flowers on the participants. Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza, Sindh Minister Haji Muzzafar Ali Shujra, MPA Sharjeel Memon and PPP Karachi President Najmi Alam addressed the rally outside the Sindh Assembly. They said that the people of Sindh were united and would ready to sacrifice their lives for the protection of Sindhs culture and national interests. Some elements are hatching conspiracies against the national solidarity and democracy for their vested interests and want to create riots among the different ethnic communities of the country. They further said that the passion of people today had foiled the conspiracies of these elements. However, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has celebrated the Sindhi Topi Day at the Sindh Secretariat. Some people do not have any work but to write against the elected government of PPP and President Asif Zardari. President PPP Karachi Division Najmi Alam also spoke at the occasion, while advisor to CM Siddiq Abu Bhai, CMs political secretary Nazr Mohammad Gaho, General Secretary PPP Karachi division Saeed Ghani, President PPP district east, and others were present at the event. On the directives of CM Sindh, Federal Health Minister Ijaz Jakharani, Sindh Minister Muzaffar Shijra, MPA Sharjeel Memon and advisors of Sindh Chief Minister distributed Sindhi caps and Ajraks among the journalists at Karachi Press Club. Central programme to mark the Sindhi Topi Day was held outside the MQM headquarter Nine-Zero, MQM Rabita Committee Deputy Convenor Anees Ahmed Kaimkhani, Ashfaq Mangi, Kanwar Khalid Younis, Waseem Aftab, MQM legislators, representatives of CDGK and the party workers were participated in the Sindhi Topi Day. Meanwhile, National Peoples Party, PPP, Sindhi Adbi Sangat, Sindh Taraqi Party, SPSF, PPP Youth Wing and other various political and social parties staged rallies in Naushahro Feroze and other towns of the district including Moro, Bhiria, Kandiaro, Mehrab Pur, Tharoo Shah, Bhiria Road. The rallies were led by Khalifa Shakeel Memon, Shah Naz Ansari, Mazher Khaskheli, Suhail Rajpar, Amjad Tagar and others. The rallies started from various chowks and culminated at the press club. Taluka Nazim Naushahro Feroze Munir Ahmed Mubijo distributed about 200 Sindhi caps among reporters and citizens of the town. The Sindhi Topi and Ajrak day was also observed in Badin like other parts of the province. Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and Dr Sikandar Mandhro led the rally. The rally passing through the main roads of Badin reached Qazia Wah bridge where it turned into a big procession. Addressing the participants of the rally the speakers said that some elements who were criticising the top leadership of PPP are now started criticising the culture of Sindh which will not be accepted. Zulfiqar Mirza said that all Sindhis are here on one platform which shows that there was no discrimination between them. They are united on their culture and no one can separate them. He also praised the owner of a Sindhi news channel and editor of a Sindhi newspaper who gathered all Sindhis on one platform. The participants of the rally demanded of the private TV channel to terminate its anchor who criticised the Sindhi Topi. Meanwhile, the day was also celebrated in Mirpurkhas. Office bearers and members of PPP including MPA Shamim Ara Phanwar, Fatima Baloch, Khairunnisa Mughul, Malik Yaseen Ghouri, Niaz Baloch, Jahangir Mughul, SM Saleem and other distributed Sindhi Topis and Ajraks to journalists community. In this regard, a ceremony was held at National Press Club. The speakers strongly condemned the anchor person of the private TV channel who criticised the civilization of Sindh and Sindhi Topi. Meanwhile another ceremony of Sindhi Topi distribution was also held at MQM zonal office where zonal in-charge of MQM Mirpurkhas Azeem Danish, District Naib Nazim Dr Zaffar Kamali, Taluka Nazim Ghulam Dastagir Khan, MPA Faheem Altafi and others members and office bearers of MQM zone Mirpurkhas distributed Sindhi capes to the senior journalists of Mirpurkhas. Meanwhile hundreds of big and small rallies were taken out in Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Digri, Jhuddo, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Pithoro, Samaro, Kot Ghulam Muhammad, Naokot and other cities and towns by PPP, MQM, ANP, JSQM, JSM, Awami Tehreek, Sindh Taraqi Passand Party, civil societies and local people. In Jacobabad, a big rally was also taken out by the PPP, led by President PPP Mohammad Pannah Odho, MPA Ayesha Khoso, Haji Abdul Sattar Brohi, Shama Jamali, Abida Brohi, from TMA and culminated at press club. Beside this other political parties including Sindh National Party, JSQM led by Khalid Jhullan, JSQH led by Sarwar Mostoi, PPP (SB) led by Nadeem Qureshi, Siddique Laher, Khalid Mirgat, District Bar led by Ahmed Nawaz Peduho and Zahid Thaheem. Primary Teachers Association, GASTA, MATA led by Alam Khoso, Javed Dharpali, Abdul Majeed Soormo, Sadik Malghani and others took out a rally which culminated at press club. Taluka Nazim Jacobabad Mir Sajjad Jakhrani distributed Sindhi Topi and Ajrak among the mediamen at Press Club. Like other parts of the province, Topi and Ajrak Day was also celebrated in Larkana. Several rallies were taken out by the different social and political groups. In this connection, a mammoth PPP rally was led by MPA Haji Munwer Ali Abbasi along with Mazhar Khan Junejo, Mashooq Ali Jatoi and other PPP leaders and activists. They were holding placards, banners inscribed with the slogans of Sindhi culture and tradition here on Sunday. Another PPP rally was led by Provincial Minister of Law Mohammed Ayaz Soomro, Senoir Vice President Larkana district DrShafqat Hussain Soomro, General Secretary Abdul Fatah Bhutto, Sohail Siyal, Mohammed Moosa Abro, Aftab Bhutto, Abdul Ghani, Saleem Soomro, Kaneez Sakina, Javed Mangi and others wearing Topis and Ajraks chanted slogans in favour of the President. Besides, another rally led by Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STPP) chairman Dr Qadir Magsi along with large number of people rally was taken out from Shaikh Zaid Chowk and ended at Jinnah Bagh Chowk. Addressing the gathering, Dr Qadir Magsi, chairman STPP, said that today was the historical day to celebrate Topi and Ajrak Day. Sindhi people have received another opportunity and crucial time to unite for the rights of Sindh. We need to aware all our Sindhi people and its leaders for unity for joint struggle to protect their resources. Dr Magsi said in past our politicians did not raise their voice for rights of Sindh and compromised with the establishment. He also criticised the PPP leadership for violating the provincial autonomy and other objectives. He said Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for democracy but present rulers were following the policies of the dictators. Muhammad Ayaz Soomro further said that the under the directives of CM Sindh, the Sindhi Topi and Ajrak Day was being observed across the province. The rally was largely attended by Dr Shafqat Hussain Soomro, Abdul Fatah Bhutto, Khan Bahadur Ghulam Mustafa Agham, Sanaullah Unar, Nooruddin Abro, Barkat Sheikh, Abdul Ghani Jatoi, Saleem Soomro, Mazhar Junejo, Appa Naseeba Channa, Aftab Bhutto, Naik Muhammad Tunio and Syed Deedar Shah and thousands of leaders and workers of PPP of Larkana district.
