ISLAMABAD - Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Maulana Fazlur Rehman during his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday demanded immediate halt to ongoing military operation in tribal areas and use other options to bring normalcy to the troubled areas. Party sources informed that JUI-F chief also raised a number of issues during the meeting with President Zardari including non-fulfilment of promises made with them which could have adverse effect to their role in the coalition government. The sources further said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman once again offered his services in slicing peace deal with Taliban and asked President Zardari that if Afghan government could initiate dialogue with Taliban why Pakistan could not do the same in the tribal areas where most of the people wanted to live in peace. It is pertinent to mention here that before the launching of military operation in Swat and Malakand Division, Maulana Fazlur Rehman had offered his services to broker peace deal with militants but due to some unknown reasons the things could not be materialised which led to the mass-scale displacement of the people of Malakand Division and huge damage to properties. Maulana Fazlur Rehman also took up the issue of non-implementation of the promises made with their party and asked the President to honour his commitment as any further delay in the fulfilment of promises could have adverse effects on the coalition. The sources said that Zardari had assured Maulana Fazlur Rehman that all the promises made with him would be fulfilled and gave direction for immediate upgradation of electricity powerhouse in DI Khan and provision of sui gas to some five Tehsils of his district. The sources said that President Asif Ali Zardari said that they were fighting the war on terror in countrys own interest and added that military operation was used after exhausting all other means including holding of dialogue with the militants. He further said that even now government was not averse to holding negotiations with militants and said that doors of dialogue would be open to all those militants who would lay down their arms and agree to abide by the law of the land. Sources further said that President Zardari also gave assurance to Maulana Fazlur Rehman that JUI-F demands regarding the implementations of Islamic Ideology Councils recommendations would be accepted and he would talk to the prime Minister in this regard.
