KARACHI Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded of the government to take serious steps to stop Talibanisation of the City as several militants belonging to South Waziristan and Swat have safe sanctuaries here. This was stated by senior MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar along with members of Rabita Committee Raza Haroon, Wasim Aftab, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Ashfaq Manghee and others during a Press conference at partys headquarters on Saturday. Sattar said MQM had earlier pointed out that Taliban from tribal areas have come to Karachi and started their terrorist activities. 'Our party on several occasions had asked law-enforcing agencies for taking steps to arrest such elements, he added. He said after the recent spate of terror attacks in the City it has become quite evident that MQMs concerns regarding Taliban have been genuine and that Talibanisation is on the rise in Karachi. He also mentioned the incident occurred few weeks back at Baldia Town in which Taliban were planning terror attacks while a bomb exploded in the house and some of them died while few terrorists belonging to Al-Qaeda and Taliban were arrested by the Karachi police. The MQM leader said recent surge in terror activities was due to Swat and South Waziristan-based Taliban who have found many sage sanctuaries in the City. He pointed out that Al-Qaeda and Taliban network have devised a plan to convert Karachi into a place of violence. 'Taliban terrorists wanted to destabilise Karachi which is commercial hub of Pakistan and serves as central artery for countrys revenue, he added. He further said that these terrorists after Swat operation have been trying to target this City. He shared his partys condolences with the families of victims who were killed and injured in Chehlum procession blasts on Friday terming them as martyrs. He said that those terrorists who carried out these blasts are not human beings. He stressed upon religious clerics of different sects to play their role to maintain religious harmony in the City.
