Cop rebuked over defying court orders

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Thursday rebuked SP Civil Lines (Investigation Wing) for repeatedly defying court orders when he filed unconditional apology after the court issued his arrest warrants. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik issued arrest warrants for SP Mufakhar Adeel as he was not appearing before the court despite many notices in a petition moved by a citizen Ahmad Shehzad seeking directions to the police for registering a theft case.
The petitioner through his counsel submitted that the police was not registering a theft case on his application despite taking Rs15000 as bribery for the purpose. The court had issued many notices to SP Civil Lines Division, but he didn’t bother the court notices. Following the attitude of the police officer, the judge issued his warrants and directed the concerned police station to produce the SP after arresting him. Minutes after the issuance of arrest warrants, the SP appeared before the court and filed unconditional apology. At this, the judge remarked that all officers beyond their grades were equal in the eyes of court. He went to say that the court would not allow anyone to defy the court orders.
He warned of the SP to face consequences if he would again adopt such attitude in future.
The court adjourned the proceedings till January 13, and sought detail report in response of the petition.
