LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting with regard to implementation of national action plan in the province on Friday and gave approval to the decision of holding essay writing and speech competitions in educational institutions for promoting brotherhood, tolerance and peace and for elimination of extremism, sectarianism and terrorism.

These competitions will be held at tehsil, district, division and provincial level. Cash prizes will be given to the male and female students on the best essays and speeches. The meeting also decided to take every possible step for the protection of life and property of the people.

Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that national action plan is an effective unanimous strategy for elimination of terrorism from the country. He while directing to tighten security of important places said that strict vigilance should be kept at the exit and entry points of the province. He said that strict implementation of the plan evolved for exit and entry points of motorway should be ensured.

He said that immediate steps should be taken for including golden principles of Islam like tolerance, patience, peace, love and brotherhood in educational syllabus. He said that special training should be imparted to the non-teaching staff in educational institutions for coping with any untoward incident.

The chief minister directed Provincial Home Minister and Inspector General Police to personally monitor the security arrangements at entry and exit routes of the province and added that police should discharge its duty efficiently for curbing the criminals.

Shahbaz Sharif said that no effort should be spared to provide justice to the people. He said that in view of present situation, extraordinary steps had been taken. He said that sentences had been made more stringent by making necessary amendments in the law for elimination of sectarianism and extremism.

He directed that effective steps should be continued with regard to implementation of law regarding ban on wall-chalking, illegal use of loudspeaker and checking of literature based on religious hatred. He said that indiscriminate action should be taken against the violators.

The meeting reviewed in detail security arrangements, overall law and order situation and steps regarding implementation of national action plan in the province.
