Islamabad - The weekly inflation for the week ended on February 4, for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000, registered an increase of 0.17 percent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 201.05 points against 200.71 points registered in the previous week, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. However, the SPI for the combined income group was decreased by 0.13 percent as it went down from 208.49 points in the previous week to 208.22 points in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 0.44 percent. As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000 was increased by 0.12 percent and 0.07 percent respectively. Meanwhile, SPI for income group from Rs 18001-35,000 and above Rs 35,000 decreased by 0.06 percent, 0.37 percent respectively. During the week under review average prices of 15 items registered decrease, while that of 8 items increase with the remaining 30 items’ prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included petrol (super), kerosene oil, LPG cylinder, Hi-speed diesel, potatoes, garlic, eggs hen (farm), pulse masoor (washed), pulse gram (washed), vegetable ghee (loose), red chilly powder, gur, cooking oil (tin), mustard oil and pulse mash (washed).

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included tomatoes, bananas, tea, tea prepared cup, shirting, onions, sugar refined and chicken. The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included wheat, wheat flour, rice basmati, rice irri-6, bread, beef, mutton, milk fresh, curd, powdered milk, vegetable ghee (tin), pulse moong (washed), salt powder, cooked beef, cooked daal, cigarettes, long cloth, lawn printed, georgette, gents chappal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity, gas charges, fire wood, electric bulb, washing soap and match box.
