LAHORE - Dozens of people yesterday staged a strong protest demonstration at Mozang Chowk against the deadly shooting in Samanabad.

The gun-attack, which took place over political rivalry in Gulzaib Colony late Friday night, left two people dead and as many wounded.

Unidentified motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on the office of a union council Chairman, Chaudhry Saleem, and fled instantly. As a result, two boys who were standing on a rooftop nearby were killed. Another two men who were sitting in the political office of the chairman also sustained multiple bullet wounds.

Police identified two of the victims as brothers. Bahadur died on the spot late Friday while his brother Safdar succumbed to bullet wounds at a hospital in early hours yesterday. Another two injured are under intensive medical care at the Jinnah hospital.

Several relatives of the victims took to streets yesterday afternoon as the police failed to make any arrest.

The protesters blocked the road by placing the dead bodies in middle of the road at Mozang Chungi Chowk. They chanted slogans against the PML-N leaders and the police for backing the criminals. The two-hour long protest demonstration caused the worst traffic mess in the busy locality.

According to the protestors, the gun-attack was carried out on the behest of political rivals of Chaudhry Saleem since they were defeated in the recent Local Bodies polls. According to the protesters, the opponents of Chaudhry belonged to ruling party PML-N.

Senior police officers reached the spot and managed to disperse the protesters after holding a series of negotiations with them. They assured the victim families that the killers would be arrested soon as the police are conducting raids.
