LAHORE - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) yesterday held a protest against government’s move to privatise the national flag carrier, and failure in overcoming energy crisis.

PTI leaders from Punjab and City chapter led the protest at Faisal Chowk in front of Punjab Assembly. They demanded that the Supreme Court should take notice of the matter. “The government must withdraw its decision of national airline privatization,” said the protestors, chanting “Go Nawaz Go” slogans.

Ijaz Chaudhary, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Chaudhary Sarwar, Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, Irfan Ahmed, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ishtiaq Malik, Naveed Ahmed took part in the protest. “The government’s focus is building metros and bridges and not on the basic needs of the masses such as clean drinking water, health facilities, education and a concrete plan to end gas and electricity load shedding,” said the PTI leaders while addressing around two dozen workers.

“The ruling party’s move to privatise the national airline on throwaway price would tantamount stealing the public money,” they added.

A few days ago, the Opposition staged a token walkout from the Punjab Assembly against the killing of three PIA workers. Besides PTI, PML-Q, PPP and JI were among the protesting parties, which staged the token walkout for half an hour and later joined the proceedings on the request of the chair. Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed before leading the walkout demanded an inquiry against the responsible for the incident.

He also demanded an out of turn condemnation resolution against the killing of the PIA workers.
