KARACHI - The Counter-Terrorism Department of the Sindh police has registered a first information report of the Chinese national murder case. The CTD investigators registered the case but no headway has been made so far during investigation.

China on Tuesday urged Pakistan to rapidly bring perpetrators to justice after unidentified gunmen shot at two Chinese nationals in the southern city of Karachi, killing one of them.  Chinese consulate officials have reportedly visited and consulted with CTD Chief Dr Sanaullah Abbasi and urged to probe the matter accordingly.

An FIR No 26/18 was registered at the CTD under Sections 302/324/34 and 7 of the anti-terrorism act against unidentified person on behalf of state. The body of the deceased Chinese national remained kept at the Chhipa morgue.

The police investigators had recovered at least ten empty shells of the 9mm pistol used in the incident from the crime scene which were sent to the forensic division of the Sindh police. The police investigators have also obtained a forensic report of the empty shells of the 9mm pistol used in the targeted killing of Chinese national in Karachi, however, the ballistic cross matching report suggests that a new weapon was used in the incident with having no previous record.

On the other hand, the investigators have also acquired nearly 10,000 cell phones calling data from the crime scene as well as acquired data of the cell phones of the deceased Chinese national and his comrade who survived in the attack.

A 46-year-old Chinese national Chen Zhu, who was serving as a managing director at non-CPEC related private shipping firm in Karachi was shot dead in a broad daylight incident of “targeted killing” in Karachi’s upscale neighbourhood Clifton’s Neelum Colony on Monday afternoon at around 3:52pm. His companion Ye Fan, a young trainee of the company, however, had survived in the attack.

After having a lunch at China Town restaurant, they moved towards Neelum Colony opposite Zamzama Park and sitting into their car outside a vegetable market. Counter-Terrorism Department is investigating a case of the Chinese national killing as what the IGP Sindh Allah Dino Khawaja has appointed CTD in-charge Raja Omar Khattab as an investigation officer of the case.

Police officials said that they were also looking for another Chinese national who was survived in the attack as what the police investigators said that were waiting for him to record his statement was he was not in position to record his statement as he remained shocked over the incident.

The police investigators have also impounded a vehicle of the Chinese national and said that they were investigating the case from different angles and nothing could say until the investigation completed.
