ISLAMABAD -  The Supreme Court has offered protective bail to the killer of Asma Rani if he comes back and joins the investigation process.

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar asked Aftab Alam, uncle of the accused and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, to bring back his nephew to the country as court would grant him protective bail. He questioned why father of the accused was not appearing before the court? Aftab told that accused Mujahid Afridi had gone to Saudi Arabia on Umrah visa while his father is in Qatar.

Deputy Director Federal Investigation Agency informed the three-judge bench that they had requested Interpol to issue Red Warrant of Mujahid Afridi, who allegedly shot dead a medical student Asma Rani over refusal of his marriage proposal on January 27.

The bench rejected the plea made by PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry that the name of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf be expunged from the instant case as it is not the party policy to protect killers. The chief justice said they have not passed any remark or observation against the PTI but the family of deceased Asma Rani has levelled allegations against a family connected with the party.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard a suo motu case on Tuesday regarding murder of the third year medical student. The bench warned of shifting investigation of the case from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the provincial government was found exerting pressure in the case.

Mujahid, nephew of PTI district president Aftab Alam, left the country after the incident but his accomplice and brother Sadiqullah Afridi was nabbed by the police later.

“If I came to know that your government is interfering in the investigation process, the consequences will not be good”, the chief justice told Aftab Alam, who is PTI Kohat President.

The chief justice remarked that the Pakhtuns are the men of honour then why the accused after killing a girl is hiding. The CJ asked Inspector General of Police KP Salahuddin Mehsud to render his professional obligation and expedite the case and ensure arrest of the accused.

The IGP KP assured the court that they can guarantee to make progress in the matter in hand. “Although investigation takes time, yet I guarantee that there is no political pressure in the case,” he told

During the hearing, the court had also summoned Fawad Chaudhry, spokesperson of PTI. The chief justice observed that Fawad Chaudhry keeps on criticising other people and holding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in high esteem by saying that the province has an exemplary police force. “Let's call him to the court so that he can witness the performance of the KP police," the CJ added.

Later on, his brother Faisal Chaudhry informed the court that Fawad was appearing before a High Court bench, adding soon he will appear before the court.
