ISLAMABAD  – Several Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) decanting outlets are openly operating in the capital in the absence of required techniques and safety measures, putting the lives of people at risk.

According to details, a large number of points situated in various areas of the city especially in the outskirts including Bani Gala, Bhara Kahu, Khanna Pul, are selling LPG and petrol without proper license and safety measures.  These outlets are not only risking lives and property of people but also violating their licences as they are only allowed to sell LPG cylinders. The shop owners sell gas in the open on kilogram basis to make more money. According to the source, it is the standard for the LPG distributors to place signboard with the name of the owner placed outside a sale point. Fire extinguishing system should be installed at every sale point, which should not contain any item that can result in fire. The price of LPG should be displayed at the sale point. Sale point should not be situated in a basement, not near a footpath, hotel, stall or tandoor. It should not be constructed with material, which can catch fire. Electric wiring should be covered at every sale point. A proper air exhausting system should be installed at every sale point. It should be constructed and situated at a 20 feet wide road where a fire brigade vehicle can reach easily in case of an emergency.

Although, LPG decanting from one cylinder to another through using electric motors is prohibited, but the illegal practice is underway putting the lives of citizens at risk.
