Up against polio

PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah, paid a surprise visit to Civil Hospital as well as the Government Elementary College for Teachers Training at Jamrud in Khyber Agency on Monday morning.
The Governor also met with the local Commander of Khasadar Force as a token of commitment to ensure polio vaccination to each and every child in the area and ordered for disciplinary action against a doctor and a nurse at the hospital for being absent from duty.
Accompanied by MNA from Khyber Agency, Shahji Gul and Political Agent Mutahir Zeb, the Governor also formally launched fresh polio vaccination campaign in the area on this occasion with the support of Khasadar jawans who have been specially trained to act as polio vaccination workers. "We have taken all the segments of the society along in our renewed efforts to get our children protected from polio virus attacks and I am personally here to make the ongoing arrangements a complete success," the Governor said.  
Later the Governor straight away went to the office of the Medical Superintendent of the hospital and while going through the attendance register, he ordered for initiative disciplinary action against Dr Asad and a Nurse Kausar Bibi for being absent from duty for the last so many days.
While paying surprise visit to the Government Elementary College for Teachers Training at Jamrud, the Governor went round various classrooms and witnessed an ongoing in-service training workshop meant for primary school teachers. He also exchanged views with the participants about their educational activities as well as the syllabus of the training process. He also talked with participants of pre-service training class and directed the concerned authorities to ensure efficient working of DSL lines along with proper arrangements for proper utilisation of computer laboratory.
Briefly talking on this occasion, the Governor said bringing improvement in quality of educational system especially to update knowledge and teaching abilities of teachers is indeed a challenging task and all concerned have to contribute visibly in making this possible.
Meanwhile talking to representatives of media the Governor said initiatives are already under way to get the volume of compensation amount, meant for real heirs of the polio workers who would get their lives lost in the course of fulfilment of their duties at par with the incentives available to their counterparts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Similarly, he added, both the education and health sectors in FATA demands hectic efforts to get the situation improved.
Talking on another point, the Governor said the IDPs from Tirah Valley have already repatriated in total to their ancestral areas while those of Bara Tehsil are still in the process of repatriation. "Some of them have already returned; some are in the repatriation process while the others are still housed in camps and we have approached the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif to seek financial support both for sponsorship of their repatriation as well as rehabilitation arrangements," the Governor pointed out. Survey of losses caused to properties in Khyber Agency, he remarked, has also been completed.
Talking on another point, the Governor said it is utmost desire of the government that problem do not get enhanced and believes in resolution of hardships through dialogue process for restoration of lasting peace in entire FATA.
