KHANEWAL - The licence branch of Khanewal Traffic Police has become a "hub of corruption and maladministration."

During a survey this correspondent learnt that officials at the licence branch have allegedly been issuing driving licences to persons, living abroad. It has been learnt during the survey that the traffic police high-ups organised a fake driving test in which they issued driving licences to Ismail and Nadeem, living in UAE and Oman respectively. These are just two examples of the traffic police corruption. It has become a common practice at the branch where officials receive Rs12,000 for LTV licence and Rs8,000 for the issuance of car/motorcycle licence.

All this is happening under the nose of Khanewal DPO Zahid Nawaz Marwat who is least bothered to take action against the corrupt officials. According to Road Safety Department Multan, Khanewal district stands 1st amongst South Punjab districts in road accidents statistics. When contacted, the officers concerned denied these allegations.

DPO Zahid Marwat could not be reached despite several attempts to seeking his comment on the issue.
