NAB to file reference against GDA ex-chief

PESHAWAR - The National Accountability Bureau Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has recommended the filing of reference in the accountability courts against Galyat Development Authority former director-general Tariq Hayat Khan and others for corruption and corrupt practices.

As per the evidence available with the NAB, the suspected persons have illegally allotted precious plots in Galyat in the violation of laws and rules causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.

The recommendation was made during the regional board meeting of National Accountability Bureau Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

 The meeting was held under the chairmanship of NAB KP Director General Brig (retd) Farooq Naser Awan here in Peshawar.

The meeting was attended by directors, additional directors, case officers, senior legal consultants and other concerned officers. Several other important decisions were also taken in the meeting.

The board authorized an inquiry against officers and officials of the Revenue, Forest and Agriculture departments in Upper Dir.

The accused people have embezzled Rs120 million by criminally increasing the estimation of compensation of 250 Kanal of land acquired. Further, they have also falsely shown expensive trees on the premises.

Meanwhile, another inquiry was authorized against medical centers and plazas in Mardan area.

The accused person has criminally constructed plaza in violation of approved maps in complete contradiction with laws and rules causing a huge loss to National Exchequer.

The board also approved reference to former Town Nazim Muhammad Shareef, regarding the accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income. Evidence collected by investigation team shows that the accused person has accumulated assets worth Rs119 million.

At the end, NAB KP Director General Brig (retd) Farooq Naser Awan expressed his resolve to eradicate corruption from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa through accountability regime.
