KARACHI - Twenty-four years old Ajantha Mendis known for his fastish slow spin ran through  much-vaunted Indian bating order with his career best bowling performance of six for 13 to give Sri Lanka a stunning 100-run win in the final of the Asia Cup here Sunday night before a sizable crowd that supported the islanders. This is Sri Lanka's fourth Asia Cup title. Ajantha's bowling haul is the best effort by a bowler at the National Stadium eclipsing Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar who had taken six for 16 against New Zealand. Sri Lanka sent into bat, first were restricted to 273 in the last over of the innings and India came up with a poor reply of 173. The defeat of Dhoni's India was a batting failure and had probably nothing to do with decision to ask Sri Lanka to bat. It was sheer poor display of batting from the Indians who crumbled under pressure. This is second defeat for the Indians in the final in recent times. They lost the final of the three nation at Bangladesh to Pakistan. India, facing the winning target of 274, were billed as a team capable of reaching the score given that they had chased chased 300 plus against the Lankans, the host Pakistan and score big totals against Bangladesh. Carrying the reputation as better players of spin bowling than other teams in this six nation championships, the Indians were rocked by Ajantha Medis who at one stage was on the verge of taking a hat-trick which the Indian tail-ender Pragyan Ojha denied. Only two players opener Virendra Sehwag who made fiery 60 in 36 ball onslaught that included twelve fours and skipper MS Dhoni who was cast aside his punishing mould to get sedate 49 in seventy four balls.
