Another French serviceman has been killed in Afghanistan, totaling the number of French troops died in the restless country to 45 since 2001, the Elysee Palace confirmed Tuesday in a statement. The French staff sergeant was seriously wounded in an explosion during a scout mission in northeast of Afghan capital Kabul, but later died from his injury in a hospital in Kabul, the statement said. French President Nicolas Sarkozy expressed his condolences to the family of the victim, the 45th French soldier killed in the country since France deployed its troops there in the end of 2001. The latest this kind of mortality was on June 19 when a French corporal died from heavy injury by artillery fire from Afghan insurgents. France has currently deployed some 3,500 soldiers on Afghan territory, most of which are based around east and northeast of Kabul.
